Mission Complete

Completing a project is rewarding in so many ways. But being able to photograph it has to be one of my favorite moments.

Thing maker.

Photobucket When Josh moved in two years ago, he made a bookshelf for our office. Since then, he's pretty much decided he can make anything. Just the other day he looked at our couch and said "I could make that". I laughed and shook my head. But as much as I tease him and his over confidence, I have complete faith in his building abilities. (See our amazing dining room table project here.)

Without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite thing he's made is our entry way table. And while it may be the smallest project, it carries the most meaning. Its' the first thing I see when I walk in the door and the last thing I see on my way out, a reminder of him and the amazing life we share.

(Oh, sorry, did I not mention this post came with a side of cheese?)

the Daily

Having grown up in a beach town, surf culture is something that will always be near and dear to me (tid-but of trivia: Josh and I met surfing 10 years ago). I can't help but get stoked when I find amazing design that represents the surf culture that I know and love. Matthew Korbel Brewer's organic, geometric work is so incredibly refreshing: the muted colors, the beatifully whacky shapes...need I say more?

Check out all of Matthew's work.

Succulent takeover.

The backyard has come down with a case of the succulents.

Thank you, Instagram, for making my iPhone pictures look way more cool than they are.

Couch problems, son!

We've been reading The Brick House and the adventures of Morgan's mid-century dwelling for years. I've always admired Morgan's unwavering courage when it comes to switching out furniture; her house is like a revolving door of sofas and coffee tables.

I am envious. Big sigh.

(Do I even need to talk about the amazingness happening in those pictures? And that Chesterfield?? Please!)

When we finally "finished" furnishing our house, I was so happy the clutter and mess had disappeared that change seemed like a four letter word. Now, a year later, I am antsy. And our tweed mid-century couch is slowly crippling. 1+1=2. It's time for change.

A few weeks ago, Josh's parents took us to a house they were looking to buy. As I peaked through the living room window, I saw it: the most obnoxious, wonderful yellow floral sofa. It was screaming my name and I made Josh's parent's promise it would be worked into the deal.

Fast forward to now. They didn't get the house. I didn't get the couch. It's all I can think about. If Don Draper had a baby with floral, it would be this couch. It had the most perfect, clean, mid-century lines coupled with a boldness reminiscent of the 70's. I'm pretty sure that couch will be like the perfect fitting pair of jeans you didn't buy and will always regret. Even if in 6 months they stretch out (like most jeans do) and you discover you don't love them they way you thought you did, it's the fact that you'll never know that irks the most.

Memorial Day

It's beginning to feel a lot like summer. Every year we joke about our "first sunburn" and this year the suburn has lasted the whole month of May. Here's to sunscreen, sand and skin. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Two days later and I still have sand in my hair.
